VAGUE Voices: Breath

VAGUE VOICES Season 2 Episode 1…

Breath.

The thing that moves us every second of every minute of every hour of every day. Most of the time we take it for granted but it really is the key to everything, and I mean more than just keeping us alive.

Mo and Ayomide really got to delve into the importance of the breath when they decided to take part in  Yoga With Adrienne’s 30-day yoga challenge in January. As one another’s accountability partner, they checked in every evening and discussed how each session felt. It was affirming, enlightening, and of course, challenging.

Through this experience, they found that moving from a place in connection to the breath can often take us out of survival mode and into actually living. It’s like our own personal homing signal grounding us back into the present and reminding us that, yes, we’re alive. Even when it feels like the world around us is spinning off-axis with compounding tragedy and strife, from Palestine to Belarus. Even today, when Black people across the world remember a young father from Minneapolis informing the public servants paid to protect him that he cannot breathe. Even today, one year since they forced him to take his last breath on the street on camera. Seven years since the murders of Eric Garner and Mike Brown.  28 years since the murder of Stephen Lawrence. 30 years since the murder of  Rolan Adams.

Today, we invite you to take a few deep loving breaths on us, eavesdrop on their conversation about the power of breathing, and remember that you are alive and deserving of peace, rest and love.
