VAGUE TOMES

A visual story on the metaphorical act of creative exchange…

Season's change.

It goes without saying it’s been a difficult 18 months for us all. Within the VAGUE community alone, our members have experienced loss, heartache, challenges, and setbacks both personally and professionally. And for a time, we felt this was best managed by looking inward. Fostering deeper relationships away from the clout economy that is social media, within the safe confines of our Discord server, the VAGUE Assembly.

Here, we screened films; swapped memes; shared secret samples and discount codes; plugged freelance opportunities and creator development programmes; celebrated personal accomplishments; and discussed whatever wild historical moment was dominating the headlines that week.

And there were many.

One might argue there has never been a more challenging time to be an artist, at least in the 21st century. To feel as deeply as we do. To absorb as freely as we do. To reflect as critically as we must. To bear witness to the fracture lines cracking along the surface of infrastructures and politics from all four corners of our suffocating planet. No stone left unturned, from the dusty plains of Kabul to people with wombs in Texas.

But seasons change. And after weathering many storms together, we feel it’s time to foster a new kind of creative exchange in our community; to share our vision for the creative industry, create new seeds, and break new ground with VAGUE. Together.

No grand promises here; we’d rather let the work speak for itself but you may notice some new names, faces and places (no pun intended) over the coming seasons as we officially crossed the 200-member threshold about a month ago.

A small win but given the circumstances, we couldn’t be more grateful to the new members, followers, and partners who have connected with our work and ethos through that silence. It’s given us the energy we need to start this new chapter and we look forward to taking you on this journey with us.
